I personally have a new Black SoundDock, however a friend of mine has today bought an Ipod HiFi. Between to two i would anyday go for the SoundDock. The Hifi is very large and heavy compared to the compact, smarter looking sounddock which is a hell of a lot lighter. The Hifi seems to play music good but fails in the sound quality department. Let me explain. The HiFi's sound is loud and has bass but compared the the sounddock on most heavy bass songs you cannot hear words or other layers of the song, just bass. As bose focus on pristine sound quality and spend alot of money researching about it their sound in 110% perfect and alot easier to listen to. So just lettin you know, Bose SoundDock Vs Apple HiFi - Bose will always come out on top.

I thought the sound quality of the Bose was good enough to warrant purchase even though I *really* wanted to have an auxiliary input to connect it to other things.

After a few months the lack of aux input finally got to me. Last night I hacked my SoundDock to include auxiliary input, so I can plug in a CD player or my laptop and listen from that. It works and sounds great.

I did a write-up for anyone who wants to void their warrantee and risk loosing their Bose investment:

My vote is for the BOSE - I had great fun in a UK department store recently playing with the display model ( yes - definitely works with the new video capable IPOD) - turned the volume up real loud - found some meatloaf preloaded and gave the grannies in lingerie a bit of a scare - expensive in the UK but certainly worth it

You hit the nail on the head when you said it needs rear line in and out ports so we can plug other stuff into it. I have this great sirius sportster and when I come in my house I plug it in to my compter so I can utilize the speakers, but it should would be a whole lot nicer if I could plug it or any portable device into the back of the bose system.

Me too!

Oh wait, can't post that anymore :)

I assume you've seen Apple's Hi-Fi. Have you heard it in comparison to the SoundDock?

Banned In NJ, I figured I'd better post about the SoundDock before a whole wave of new products made it obsolete. :)

Aaron, I know you're joking, but I'm pruning it. :)

Ryan, it's a 4G iPod, so it doesn't do video. But yes, it does have Linux on it. :)

Matt, what type of Ipod do you have?

Does it work with the new 30gig video?

I've found a lot of the accessories I've bought for mine say they work with all Ipods, but don't.
