Reindeer Car Antlers are a Great Holiday Present

Last year I got these reindeer car antlers for my wife. This year she let me have them for my car. They look like this:

Reindeer car antlers

(Note: this is the picture from the catalog, not one of our cars.)

Tons of people stop, stare, and then break out in a smile or start pointing out my car to friends as I drive by with my sleek reindeer antlers and big red nose. The antlers slide onto your windows, which then shut securely. That means you don’t need to worry about antler-theft in a parking lot or losing an antler as you scoot down the highway at 65 miles an hour. You may need to pay attention if you roll down your window at a McDonald’s drivethrough though.

I ordered mine from What on Earth and they’ve worked great. Lots of fun and highly recommended.

  1. I first read the headline in Google Reader as “reindeer cat antlers.” My cats are relieved that this was a brief misunderstanding.

  2. What about people just tearing them off the window and maybe breaking the window?

I almost may put them on, i was just thinking of tying santa to my grill, but this may be better.

  3. at a mere snip of $15.95, they are well worth it! i love this idea!

How romantic, you’re all Heart Matt and spare no expense ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Wysz, cat antlers, hmmmm.. Actually, I don’t think my cats would stand for that.

youfoundjake, I worried about it too, but it’s been a couple weeks with no problems at all. I think the risk of antler theft is pretty low.

  6. Sad, sad, sad.

  7. Matt I know this is way off topic and you don’t know me from Adam, but I saw this and knew you NEEDED to see it. Wet Cats! http://www.mixx.com/photos/2866548/best_pictures_of_wet_cats#comment-227006

  8. That’s hilarious and cute. And also way geekier than anything you could ever post about the inner workings of a search engine. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Matt, I’m willing to bet that this would be reported as a paid link if it was on any other site. Not only that, but Google might very well penalize the PR if it weren’t your site.

How can you really not understand how completely out of touch Google’s paid link policy is?

  10. How can you really not understand how completely out of touch Googleโ€™s paid link policy is?

Because the only people who think it’s out of touch are so far out of touch themselves that there really isn’t anything to misunderstand as a result.

As far as the reindeer antlers are concerned, that idea probably only works in an urban area where deer wouldn’t reside. The one thing about deer is that they’re a lot less bashful than most people think. One of my friends had to call the police to report damage to his Caddy after it got hit by a deer…and yes, the deer hit the car, not the other way around.

  11. Matt, it is not a just paid *link*, it looks like a paid *review* without disclosure, which violates FTC guidelines that you quoted here:
    http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/11/19/insidious-new-seo-ad-product-will-be-hard-for-google-to-detect/

This post (the link) also violates the Google guidelines that you have stated in the quote in the link, too.

Why not treat all links as links, analyze commercial intent better, optimize, etc, instead of overrelying on moral principles? You know what happens, when you worry too much about something? The system collapses on that very point.

  12. Skitzzo, if I post about something it’s because I like it or I want to; I don’t accept payment for any links/reviews on my blog, and I don’t show any ads on my blog. Let’s not get into a paid-link policy discussion here.

  13. Any idea whether this actually improves performance in the snow? Would this be considered a traction device by Caltrans, by any chance? It sure looks cute though …

  14. Johannes, the car did feel a little more grippy on the road, but that could have been my imagination. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Matt, Iโ€™m willing to bet that this would be reported as a paid link if it was on any other site.

How on Earth did you arrive at that conclusion???

and I donโ€™t show any ads on my blog

You should and donate the money to a charity if you don’t want it. Come on Matt, think of the millions of charities that simply CANNOT generate the traffic your Blog does.

  16. Hmmm, I ride a bike. I guess I could just tape them to my helmet. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. That’s great…I’ll have to pick one up for the lady.

  18. YUP guys – I agree with your criticism of Skitzzo

That was surely some “moosetake” ….. hee hee…. get it …. mistake …. moosetake ….

    Ah well, never mind :–)

  19. Hope to have this in Spain ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Nice car! The antlers really enhance the look.

  21. These would are great but up here in Boston things like this don’t last long on people’s cars. Someone, somewhere will find a way to sell them.

  22. Those are hilarious. Do the antlers improve vehicle performance?

  23. Hehe, I wouldn’t like to have them on my car. I kind of like blue color.

  24. Brilliant. I want some of those now! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. Maybe this could start some kind of new festive Pimp My Ride concept…
I bet those antlers give great downforce. Who needs spoilers?

  26. I went out today to find that someone had broken off of my car one of the antlers. I can’t buy more. I am so hurt. They brought many a smile.

  27. Like Lynda, I had those on my car, and some jerk snapped them both off of my car, then cut the nose off with a knife. All of this outside of the Nordstrom at the local mall!

  28. just curious if anyone knows any retail stores with the antlers, i’m leaving on a trip tomorrow early so don’t want to wait on delivery.
    thanks
    -steve

  29. Got mine at Walgreen’s for $9.99 (set). My question — IS this going to ruin the weatherstripping around the windows? When I hit the power button to lower the windows, the clip stays in the top of the gasket.
