Looks great – what all books did you get btw? Or you wanna keep it a secret so others can’t spoil the fun?

Doug May 15, 2007 at 10:34 am

I hope they took some of your advice – from the looks of it, you might be their best client.

KJW May 15, 2007 at 10:44 am

Wow!! Any Robert Jordan in there??

Rich May 15, 2007 at 10:48 am

Great picture, so what books did you actually get?

Tonnie May 15, 2007 at 12:48 pm

But hey, have a relaxed holiday Matt. :)

Sterling Simpson May 15, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Dont waste your time with Amazon go to AbeBooks.com and pick from the 100million books available online.

Sorry for the plug but Amazon got a free plug so I had to comment! :)

Tim Linden May 15, 2007 at 1:42 pm

I’m surprised they didn’t come in one big box..

Elias Kai May 15, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Have it to the Max Matt.

ranti May 15, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Will you able to finish them all by the end of your vacation? :-)

Dog May 15, 2007 at 2:56 pm

Cool. Reading is good. What are they btw?

OnlyMe May 15, 2007 at 5:21 pm

Oh boy Matt,

I see 8 packages and some looks like there are more then 1 book inside. It’s already the 15th are you sure you’re gonna have enough time to read all those by the 31st?

Is your wife vacationing alone or something?

Happy reading!

Nozzle May 15, 2007 at 6:13 pm

Yahaha ,you are a shutterbug ,are’t you ? The picture looks nice.

Avo May 15, 2007 at 6:37 pm

Matt – Looks like most of the comments want to know what books you actually got (this one included). So unless it’s a Google secret, you’ll need to caugh it up! :)

Dave (Original) May 15, 2007 at 7:26 pm

Just like buses, none for a while, then 10 at once :)

Deepak Rajput May 15, 2007 at 7:50 pm

Hey MC………hope you enjoying every moment..

I think these are the books that you want to read during holidays….
have fun and relax yourself… even you don’t know when you will be free next time :)

martial May 15, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Is that all your doing on your holiday – reading books ?

Kirk VandenBerghe May 15, 2007 at 9:22 pm

Happy reading…just remember to keep up that hiking and walking, too!

Leinad Zeraus May 15, 2007 at 10:14 pm

Matt,

I’m glad you enjoyed Daemon, and thank you for the link to the book’s web site. Apparently you have several thousand friends who respect your opinion. :)

jieer May 15, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Looks like you got some serious word devouring to do there ;) Have a goodun Matt, but yes, please let us know what books to went for in the end!

ThomasB May 16, 2007 at 2:10 am

Matt, any chance you can link the picture to amazon and include my associate ID? Otherwise feel free to link to one of my purified Amazon stores. ;)

Gerry May 16, 2007 at 2:15 am

Have to be honest, I buy all my books from charity shops … I find it really hard not to get books looking tatty after reading it on a train (commuting 3 hours a day)… My personal reccomendations are for Terry Pratchett… One advantage of using charity shops, is that through limited choice and cheap prices you often find hidden gems!

I have to be honest when I finally get a holiday (contractor so they are unpaid) I will be staying way away from the computer for it!

Daan May 16, 2007 at 4:00 am

Yet another post without any newsvalue.

holgr May 16, 2007 at 4:25 am

holgr says: reading 1.0 (books) rulez. I’ve already mentioned in my blog the potential danger of reading things using a notebook :-)

Michael Wilson SEO May 16, 2007 at 5:30 am

Nice one Matt! I see you are truly enjoying your holiday. :) What other Books did you buy?

bob rains May 16, 2007 at 11:40 am

Wow that looks nice, it really reminds me how bad I need a vacation.

bob rains May 16, 2007 at 11:41 am

Wow, man that looks nice I could really use some leisure reading, and the time to do it.

Thanks for the inspiration.

hlvis May 16, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Do tell Matt, are you trying to say Amazon is wooing you? Or are you in fact just having a great vacation trying to read and relax?

Looking forward to seeing you at SearchEngineLand.com’s first ever conference SearchMarketing Expo…

TheHolidayPolice May 16, 2007 at 2:39 pm

This is the holiday police, put the book down S-L-O-W-L-Y, raise both your hands in the air, and back away from the book. Back A-W-A-Y from the B-O-O-K.

Maybe it’s just my opinion, but books describe worlds and there’s a big one (a world not a book!) out there to explore. You have maybe 50 good years during which you can go out and do stuff, there’s thousands of things to do before you die, say 1000/50 = 20 a year. One new thing every 2 weeks just in this world alone.

Read the book on the flight, train, take the bus to work and read it then.

Yours faithfully,
The Holiday Police

BTW Does google recognize B-O-O-K as book with emphasis, or *word* as word with emphasis?

Ahh, I see now, the problem is there’s no smiles in the Google world:
Search for :) and it returns nothing….

Brian B May 16, 2007 at 6:45 pm

I hope you signed up for the Amazon Prime program so that you got free shipping.

Joost May 16, 2007 at 7:49 pm

LOL, welcome to the world of Matt Cutts where you write two lines, post a pic and a million people listen and a hundred comment. :D

Bill May 16, 2007 at 9:42 pm

looks like mr. mailman dropped a few (as usual)

Seoidiot May 17, 2007 at 1:05 am

Excellent, If only I could read!

Cell seo May 17, 2007 at 2:50 am

Nice picture and excellent camera .I want to buy a new camera in my vacation .Any suggestion.

Peter Carvell May 17, 2007 at 4:57 am

This wins the most amount of comments for a picture of a pile of unopened Amazon parcels award. Surprisingly I have that chair too, but I couldn’t care less what books you ordered. What is it with the American phrase ‘I could care less’ you guys have it all wrong!!

Remember – don’t read on the can, it gives you piles.

Jayanta May 17, 2007 at 7:30 am

Amazon must have gifted you..:)

Scott May 17, 2007 at 8:18 am

Matt,
If you like Daemon, you might also like Lyda Morehouse’s “ARCHANGEL PROTOCOL”. Although I’m not usually one for mixing religion and sci-fi, it is a great read. There are also several books in the series, which is always a plus for a good series.

Unfortunately, although it won some prizes and such, they are out of mainstream print. But you can usually find them in used book stores and of course, online.

More info:
http://www.mninter.net/~sprounds/Fiction.htm
http://www.amazon.com/Archangel-Protocol-Lyda-Morehouse/dp/0451458273

Adam Dempsey May 17, 2007 at 9:28 am

That’s a big pile of books! I’ve got to get some more, finished my last one the other day.

Mike Day May 17, 2007 at 10:00 am

Could they have put all of those books in one box?

Degas May 17, 2007 at 10:32 am

Hello Matt,

You need to open them if tou want to read them !

If you have have one on “Secret’s google referencing”, I hope ta have the same.

Best regards
Degas

Ryan May 17, 2007 at 12:25 pm

That’s a neat technique Matt… not opening them until you’re ready to read them.

Whenever I order books I usually order 2 or 3 at a time, and then I have the problem of trying to read 3 at a time.

Maybe if I leave them inthe box it’ll tempt me more to finish one so I can start another.

OnlyMe May 17, 2007 at 8:05 pm

Ok Matt, might be off subject here but again you go on vacation and Google goes through not only a normal major update but a real MAJOR interface and algorithm update.

Ok we need you back, but I have patience and will wait till your vacation is over. I’m just counting down the days. :-)

Enjoy!

Danny Yee May 17, 2007 at 8:50 pm

That pile should keep you out of mischief for a while!

I just wish shipping rates to Australia weren’t so high, but with the Aussie dollar at new highs against the greenback it’s not a bad time to be buying from Amazon. (I’m visiting my sister in the UK soon, so I’m taking advantage of free/cheap shipping there and having stuff delivered to her.)

James Oppenheim May 18, 2007 at 2:02 am

Wow, Amazon would love the free advertising. Happy reading.

Ashley Peach May 18, 2007 at 4:10 pm

Was the either packages insted of one just to get more postage off you or what?

Brandon May 18, 2007 at 7:17 pm

Makes me want to go order some books for myself :) )
I think I might just do that

Let us know what your reading ;)

TerryG May 19, 2007 at 1:15 am

Did you pay for that or was it “gifted”?

Harith May 19, 2007 at 1:30 am

Friends!

Tiered of looking at Matt’s chair and all those brown packages?

Why not enjoy yourself by looking at some gorgeous girls from Kentucky instead :)

puzzler May 19, 2007 at 7:36 am

Just ordered “Daemon” for my vacation next week… it better be good :-) , it is a short vacation!

George T. May 19, 2007 at 3:19 pm

After visiting the daemon website, I immediately bought it… can’t wait to read the book… thanks for the info…

Can we get a glimpse on the other reading items.

George T.

spy phone May 19, 2007 at 3:28 pm

yeah people shouldn’t forget about books.. not just internet all the time:)

Henrik Kibak May 20, 2007 at 2:28 am

Ha! Looks like time for bookaholics anonymous! I one time calculated that half my non-house assets were books, on a cover price basis. What does your wife say? ;)

Joseph Hunkins May 20, 2007 at 7:38 pm

Matt – you’ve been so busy reading you forgot to solve your own puzzler:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/a-quick-puzzle/#comments

Seoidiot May 21, 2007 at 6:26 am

Keniki you got nothing better to do?

Justin Anderson May 21, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Do we have to wait until you are done reading all those books for another blog post?

Just kidding, but it’s been a week since we’ve heard any wisdom from the Great Matt Cutts.

Ray Baker May 21, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Hey – that looks like my missing chair!

I don’t believe that those books represent search engine courses but isn’t it interesting they only badged one and delivered them all at the same time. You must have been on a spree!

Ray

Ian May 22, 2007 at 1:40 am

Looks like you’ve a lot of reading to do. Let us know you favorite 3 after you’ve finished reading them, I’m always on the hunt for a good book.

Fargham May 22, 2007 at 1:47 am

Hey Matt! Its time of another post.

Esrun May 22, 2007 at 2:15 am

lmao clean your tongue off Justin

Deb May 22, 2007 at 6:24 am

So “Daemon” you liked very much, what other book you are reading now?

Deb

Justin Anderson May 22, 2007 at 8:07 am

LOL Esrun…

hey, if you can’t suck up to the web spam manager of google, who can you suck up to?

Esrun May 23, 2007 at 3:19 am

lmao Keniki. You seriously have nothing to do. Why don’t you go make buddies with incredibill, you two seem to be along the same par.

If you’re not happy with the way google handles spam reports then don’t use them as a search engine.

I’m not going to flood this blog post with a bunch of off-topic trolling comments, I suggest you don’t either.

dlperry May 23, 2007 at 3:44 am

;) …the big one is “War and Peace” ? ;)
or at least the first half.

SEOidiot May 23, 2007 at 4:06 am

Ok hello…. this is actually my first comment in this post – someone is playing games and pretending to be me in blog comments and forums all over… however to address your point in my own dumb spammer way: -

1. This really isnt the best place to be having a fight – its rude to be imposing on someone elses blog (Unless you automate it 10,000 times of course lol)
2. I have never said BH is more intelligent than WH – look at my name ffs – most BH’s are as dumb as the WH’s imo
3. Enjoy filling in the spam returns – maybe you could write yourself a nice automated spam reporter and see how long till Google get bored…
4. I think a mature debate is always better than mud slinging – look at your tirade against poor Esrun, dont be nasty he will cry. Hes a poor sensitive guy underneath really ;)

Normal service returns below :D

your wiki guide May 23, 2007 at 6:29 am

with that books, you are a true wide reader. No wonder you got great ideas with your post. I’m a wide reader too! It allows me to stretch my own thinking.

SayJumner May 23, 2007 at 7:38 pm

i hope thats what my desk will look like when I return to NY, I have been down in FL taking a high powered SEO class, thats how I wandered into here. I have been ordering a few books as well to help me boost my SEO knowlege. Trouble is I usually get bored reading.

Scott May 24, 2007 at 7:01 am

Amazon rocks and is so addictive. I have a bad habit of ordering more books than I can read. I’m going to have to retire just to read all of the books I’ve collected over the years. I’m trying really hard now to read everything I have before I buy anything new. Wish me luck. Enjoy your break.

Reah May 24, 2007 at 8:13 am

i just bought 4 books this afternoon too..not from amazon though…just from some thrift bookshop in the mall..enjoy reading!

Paul May 24, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Yeah nice collection. I’ve just finished “Fist of God” by Frederick Forsythe, awesome book!!!! Although “Day of The Jackal” and “The Odessa File” are absolute classics too! If any of you guys like thrillers, you’ll love those mentioned. BTW, are those all reference books Matt? Or do you like Harry Potter?

Mark Bowness May 24, 2007 at 12:11 pm

I love this image, when books turn up from Amazon, a moment to savour!

ismail yk May 24, 2007 at 2:01 pm

Great picture, so what books did you actually get?

Anyways do let us in on the scoop! :P

corey May 26, 2007 at 11:40 am

What a convenient time to take a vacation and stop blogging. Are you going to respond to all the big brother Google posts when you return?

- is universal search going to hurt the little guy? how many more google properties can we put on a serp until there’s nothing but google content to be found?

- “google gods want to know more about you” was front page news this week. time for another privacy post?

Politics Forum May 26, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Scented Candles May 27, 2007 at 8:48 pm

What kind of books are these ?

Sterling Silver Jewelry May 27, 2007 at 8:48 pm

Are these SEO books, Matt ?

Decorative Throw Pillows May 27, 2007 at 8:49 pm

These are not related books to Google, are they Matt ?

Heather Paquinas May 28, 2007 at 8:47 am

Matt, who made your wordpress theme?

these guys are apparently big fans,

http://www.northsouthmedia.co.uk/wordpress/

At first I thought they were a scraper site.

Heather Paquinas May 28, 2007 at 8:48 am

Matt, you should have a forum on your site for times like this when your fans need to chat about stuff like this thread, when you’re away on vacation.

SEOidiot May 28, 2007 at 9:52 am

Is it just me or is Keniki a little obsessed …. ?

Im no spammer but that number of comments looks like spam in itself… and probably as much use..

Esrun May 28, 2007 at 11:02 am

Keniki whats wrong with Memset? I have used them before a couple years ago and they were a great company to deal with.

Harith May 28, 2007 at 1:09 pm

Heather Paquinas

Matt has mentioned in a previous post something about the origin of his blog’s theme:

My WordPress Theme

Esrun May 29, 2007 at 1:38 am

Keniki, my last word on this subject. If you make libel comments about me then I have the time and money to take you through the courts. Trust me, even if you were to defend yourself and be safe; it’s still going to cost you.

SEOidiot May 29, 2007 at 2:04 am

Ill take that as a yes then….. he is obsessed….

Abraham May 29, 2007 at 11:19 am

That pics remind me one of the theme from wordpress, any SEO book that you recommend?

SEOidiot May 31, 2007 at 3:54 am

comments dissapeared by restore …… whoooooooooooooops

Esrun June 1, 2007 at 1:10 am

Keniki you could have just gone to londonseo and would know who I worked for, where I worked, what I do each day.. it’s not big secret mate. I think someone needs to grow up. I promise you though, if I manage to obtain a working address for you, I do intend to take legal action against you for libel comments.

SEOidiot June 1, 2007 at 4:22 am

Keniki,

I would also suggest that you either back up any of these comments in fact or i would be happy to support esrun in any action that he would like to take. Matt I would suggest that the comments here are reviewed closer to avoid things getting messier.

Paul

Esrun June 1, 2007 at 10:24 am

A good book can always be hard to Get Hold Off.

Esrun June 2, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Jesus Christ Keniki shut the hell up. You’re actually starting to become a bore.

All this crap about you saving the world from spam, no one gives two hoots mate. Most people are out there living their lives. If you want to fight spam and think you actually have any skill then apply for a job on the google webspam team or similar.

All this crap about ‘if I loose the company then so be it’ and about turning away work is absolute bollocks. You can’t just register a domain name and call it a company. Any legal action would be taken against you as an individual, not a company and if you cannot afford costs then your assets will be taken by appointed debt collectors.

You have no idea what you’re talking about or the amount of trouble you’re going to get yourself in if you continue with this nonsense.

You think you’re the master because you track down a few details, as I said before – anyone at londonseo would know who I am, what I do, who I work with and such like.

I will try call you again tomorrow since it went through to answer phone last time. We can discuss this off the blog. It’s not about being scared or worried, its about you making comments which I consider defamation which I simply won’t tolerate anymore.

I’d like to indicate that I’m starting to feel your comments are becoming threatening against me and I do feel unsafe. It is at this point you should contact your solicitor and ask for the definition of assault, which as you know is a criminal matter – not civil. Assault does not need to be physical.

I have seen no begging of matt cutts for help, just advice from Seoidiot to matt that he keep an eye on any libel comments you continue to post.

The bottom line is that we are here to make money and google are here to make money. We don’t go out to cause trouble and we don’t try and degrade the usefulness of the internet, it’s just business.

North South Media June 3, 2007 at 3:33 pm

That was like some bad Bugs Bunny plot where Elmur Fudd eventually gets the rabbit – but who is Bugs and who is Elmur – hell even I don’t know.

Jordan June 7, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Must be a lover of books, then. I use Amazon too for books and videos and stuff,

JC June 10, 2007 at 4:15 pm

Matt, It would be a good idea for you to list good books you have read -ala Oprah’s Books! You are a respected person, people value your judgement -you can even have a survey of people who read your recommendations, reviews, etc…

renialb June 13, 2007 at 4:29 pm

Esrun what happend to the site mate. Been down for two days now. Did something get bollocks up ? I was really enjoying your site and ran accross this post. email me renialb at gmail dot com.

Why can’t you let amazon send them all at once? Waster of ressources…

WebWalas June 17, 2007 at 12:29 am

it’s been so long since i read something. The last book i read was “The God of Small Things” and 2 times i tried to finish “The Idiot” (fyodor dostoevsky) but still few pages are remained.

Thankx for reminding me. I am gonna finish those pages in few days. :)
