My tattoo

Update: This was an April Fool’s Day joke.

As I mentioned in my last post, I got a tattoo this past weekend. Several people have asked about it by email, so I’ll go ahead and post a couple shots of it. I decided to get a Firefox tattoo because it’s a cool design and I really like what Firefox is doing these days. Here’s what it looks like:

My Firefox tattoo

And here’s a photo from a different angle:

A Firefox tat is where it's at

I thought about getting the design in black and gray, which also looks pretty cool. But the Firefox colors are really nice and I figured that with the colors the tattoo would “pop” a little more. So far I’ve been getting some great reactions. A couple friends have seen it and said “I didn’t know you had a tattoo” so I told them it was new. If you like the photos, I’m sure you’ll get a chance to see it at upcoming search conferences.

Hope this is a joke and it is washable

Please don’t do this to yourself

At least not on the neck –

This IS a joke, right?!…..Sure it is! It’s got to be ;-)

So if I press the icon on your neck, will a window pop out of your cerebral cortex? :o )

Dunno about the tattoo but the shirt looks photoshopped.

And right by where the Matrix cable would connect into the brain.

Is that the Firefox 4 user interface option?

does this means that soon we’ll have Google neck-ads?

Also, I wouldn’t want to be the guy with the IE tattoo, crashing might be lethal.

Don’t add too many ‘extensions’; nobody will see it.

You should have gotten the Google Logo as a tramp stamp tattoo :)

This is easy to make with Adobe Photo Shop ;) I did it couple of times…!!

OK, I really hope (for your own sake) you’ve made two April Fool’s jokes… ;)

- cannot see your face
- skin not too irritated like it should be for a fresh tattoo on the back of the neck
- too perfect to have been done by hand
- too many similar tattoos on google image search that pretty much all look fake

if it is true, way to go matt. supporting the revolution. I LIKE IT!!!!!

I think everyone should have a tattoo in that same place. That way when you are face down on my adjusting table I’ll know who you are.

April Fools! Right? Yes? Correct?

Lewis April 1, 2008 at 12:29 pm

If you got a real tattoo, it wouldn’t clear up that cleanly that quick. Plus the fact that you mentioned it in your April fools joke gives it away.

Nice try but waay to obvious.

Matt, when I push the button… push the tattoo, would Firefox download start or Firefox will open or Firefox will be installed in your brain? Please answer! ;-)

Oh, please say it isn’t so.

Tattoo = tacky
Firefox = tackier

Looks more like a super nasty zit.

Seems a little soft to me. – You should have gotten it in dark green and on the front-side part of your neck.

Very funny, Although it does kind of look real, I don’t think anyone would get a permanent Firefox logo on the back of their neck. I hope this is a joke.

ha ha… next year I think that you should get a can of Spam tattoo with an arrow splatting through it…

No way. Love you Matt … but no way. Happy April Fools Day

Reply

Haha… So much for “no April Fool’s post this year”

EGOL is right about the Spam idea — haha

Now I have to confess a few years back that I was going to get a Google tatt on my shoulder – someone at a certain forum told me I could be sued so I settled for a Dragonfly (for my daughter who loves them)

Will April 1, 2008 at 3:32 pm

They could have at least put it in the middle of your neck rather than off to the right. Tell your photoshoppers they need to raise their game. Such trickery, despite denying you’d do an April Fool gag last night!
:)

David Saunders, there are people who have gotten a Google tattoo.

There’s a pretty good reason why I skipped on a Google tattoo this year though.

David desJardins April 1, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Google is browser neutral, so I think you are morally obligated to tattoo all of the other browser logos on different parts of your body.

Matt Cutts April 1, 2008 at 6:32 pm

David desJardins, the Opera logo might sting a little bit.

Jim McNelis, I had a whole story ready about how Google was going to change its logo and colors every 10 years, so I was waiting for Google to change its logo in a year before getting my Google tattoo. But not many people asked why I got a Firefox tattoo instead of a Google tattoo. :)

Jim McNelis April 2, 2008 at 5:59 am

Matt, I have to say the whole Google changing their colors every ten years excuse, coming from you, I think you could have sold it. You could have pulled it off.

So why did you choose FF over Google for your fake tattoo?

“So why did you choose FF over Google for your fake tattoo?”

I just happened to see this fake tattoo at the BALUG meeting and picked it up. It was a complete chance that I saw the Firefox tattoo, but I decided to use it.

Matt:

That was hilarious, the I-Phone prank now this, you crack me up. I wish the “dewy” update was this funny, but unfortunately it’s not for many.

You are an expert when it comes to giving people just enough information, in this instance I wish there was more insight about the recent algorithm updates in April to give some of us a firm understanding of the things to come.

I hope most SEO’s can keep their humor intact during the next few weeks.

All the best,

Jeffrey Smith
