March Madness 2008!

in Personal

March Madness is here again, baby! The brackets have been released, and the University of North Carolina is a #1 seed. The wonderful thing about attending the University of Kentucky for undergrad and then UNC in grad school is that I’ve always got great teams to root for in March. :)

If you’re a fan, Google released a basketball bracket gadget for iGoogle. It’s really useful to track how you’re doing.

I try to create a bracket on iGoogle, but when i clicked the Create bracket, it always said “Error creating bracket”, do you have the same problem? i will try again later.

So, is Google among the companies prohibiting watching streaming March Madness games at work? Saw a story about companies blocking sites with streaming games to keep from overloading their corporate LANs with non-business traffic.

Is “March madness” where drunken & drugged up “students” run riot thinking only of themselves and have “fun” at the expense of others?

Hey…I was kind of expecting your spam protection question to be “What is UNC’s current poll ranking?”

Good thing we didn’t have a bet on today’s ACC game. I would owe Heifer Intl. on that one. But….there’s still an opportunity for a rematch ;-)

I work just next door to DirecTV in LA and they have been gearing up all week for March Madness. Going to be a crazy week. Just glance at Google Hot Trends and you’ll see 20+ college basketball searches. Besides “how to cook corned beef” searches, most MM results are dominating the top 100 page.

I like you Matt, so I will keep this short….

Go Pack!!!!

We don’t have anything good like that in the UK, we just have cricket and soccer. Does Google have a tool for getting good sports through to the UK?

“We don’t have anything good like that in the UK, we just have cricket and soccer. Does Google have a tool for getting good sports through to the UK?”

a) We have cricket and FOOTBALL :-)
b) there is plenty of opportunities to watch good “college” sport – but you’re right, not at this level, because the US is, well, tad bit bigger country than the UK.

Go Hoyas! Go!

James I think its the sport that nice middle class boys try out for when Mommy doesnt want them to play football :-)

And it sound like the “Buffers in Blazers” TM that run Basketball need to get a grip and run all the games out of work hours – you know like the RFU does for the 6 Nations and how Bernie wants non european GP’s to run night races.

No Dave (original), I think you’re thinking of soccer matches. ;) Just kidding, just kidding. I played soccer in high school, so I’m allowed to joke about soccer fans.

Matt,

“I played soccer in high school, so I’m allowed to joke about soccer fans.”

I would imagine that you looked at that time like him :)

I just might have to try the bracket function.

Definitely have to support my Oregon Ducks, i think they are the 9 seed.

Matt,

Go WSU Cougs!

The great thing about March Madness is the referees don’t allow cheating. :)

So, can I assume you’ll be joining the SEO Madness contest, even if it’s on “another search engine’s” web site?

Dave (original) March 17, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Matt, Soccer Hooligans don’t need drugs, booze and certainly not an education to run riot :)

Bibokz March 18, 2008 at 6:34 am

Wow… when will it come to Philippines?

Matt Cutts March 18, 2008 at 9:16 am

Derrick, you should come over to the other side. ;)

Matt, I went to check out the link and ran into “All you need is a Yahoo account.” I’m not sure that I have one of those. :)

I am a Gator Fan, but since Gators are not doing good … UNC is my pick.

Catfish March 19, 2008 at 9:19 am

Matt, I’m picking my AZ Wildcats for the upset wins to get to the Sweet 16. We sure miss Lute Olsen this year. And on an unrelated note, I wrote a new song called the SEO Blues. You can find it here: http://www.businessol.com/seo-blog/2008/03/seo-blues-free-mp3-music-download-by.html

I mentioned your name in the song. Hope you dig it.

Didn’t realize you went to UK for your undergrad Matt. That’s pretty cool… I live in Lexington currently. :)

Looks like the Cats got put out today… at least you’ve still got UNC to root for. I grew up in Ohio though, so I’m was rooting for the Buckeyes. Oh wait… they didn’t make the NCAA’s this year. Whoops.
