in Personal

Sometimes I think Twitter steals energy away from blogging. I just did my 1000th tweet a few days ago. I’ll try to write something soon, but it’s been busy for the last few days. At least my cat Emmy has helped me catch up on my newspaper reading:

Emmy reads the sport section

Ha – how funny – just like my cats.
Everytime they are on my desktop – catch my mouse – read my newspaper – eat my food ;)

Matt, this cat obsession has to stop lol Hmmm Twitter,,,not sure id go with energy loss I’d say more of an impulsive medium

Erik December 10, 2008 at 12:43 am

Great way to delegate your work. How does the cat report back to you with the summaries of the newspapaper.

Jan December 10, 2008 at 12:49 am

Awww, cute kitteh :-)

Our cats just lie down in the middle of newspapers to cover most of it, wanting your _full_ attention. It works _every_ time.

Peter December 10, 2008 at 12:59 am

Emma: “I thought I saw a Tweet….nope, it’s only Matt again!”

Diablos December 10, 2008 at 2:38 am

Aww so cute, you should have kept burying her head in the paper would have been funny, she would have fell out with you for 5 mins.

Chetan December 10, 2008 at 4:47 am

Seems your cat loves Sports, that’s why she is reading Sports page.
Good, Now pets have time to read the newspapers. I have Goldfish as my pet, i don’t think so she will try to read the newspaper :)

Barrie Adams December 10, 2008 at 4:59 am

mmm.. Matt, one of your less interesting posts, still got a click from me, suckered! I shall be waiting for some groundbreaking posts in the near future!!

Best

Todd Mintz December 10, 2008 at 5:53 am

Now if my cat tried to keep me from reading the sports section…bye bye kitty :.)

Lisa Barone December 10, 2008 at 5:53 am

I love this blog. :)

Lyndsay December 10, 2008 at 6:24 am

So, so CUTE!!

Jem December 10, 2008 at 6:57 am

I still think you should post more cat entries. (But I am a cat lover…)

Jacqueline December 10, 2008 at 7:37 am

This is an adorable picture, and just like a cat – getting in the way of your reading.

Joel Lesser December 10, 2008 at 7:55 am

You aren’t the first to state that twitter takes away from blogging or other real work. A friend of a friend of mine was fired just last week from a very good fortune 500 job for twittering at his place of business. Do people really care what others are doing every moment of the day? I think twitter is more of a fad than anything else.

Kevin December 10, 2008 at 8:35 am

ha ha…thats cool… now following you ;)

Paul Mackenzie Ross December 10, 2008 at 9:12 am

I have enough trouble with the amusing distraction of facebook status feeds let alone having constant noise of twittering… hence I’ve been lucky enough to skip the habit ;)

Rabin from Wasilla December 10, 2008 at 10:11 am

Interesting, how your cat helps you in catching up on things.

Its even more interesting that you do not have spam controller in your blog anymore. Dont worry, I am not a spammer!! ;-)

spamhound December 10, 2008 at 11:16 am

Yes, your excessive “tweeting” would explain the lack of smacking down reported paid links and spammers.

Sebastien December 10, 2008 at 11:49 am

I can haz newzpayper ;-)

John A. Davis December 10, 2008 at 12:14 pm

I did! I heard a puddy tat, as plain as plain could be.

panzermike December 10, 2008 at 1:22 pm

So how do you know when it is a “paid link” or a vote?

Ryan December 10, 2008 at 2:40 pm

wait, you still get a newspaper?

Dave (originial) December 10, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Twitter and all other social media sites have been ruined by blackhats who are constantly trying to abuse them for personal gain.

IMO, the sooner these site types die off the better.

Chip December 10, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Is your cat running numbers again?

The Freelance Cartoonist December 10, 2008 at 10:19 pm

I don’t know but cats really love messing around with newspapers. (especially when someone’s already reading it).

Adde December 10, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Nice to see that someone is doing something exceptional to help you. out :)
just kidding, congrats on your 1000th twittee and keep up the good work. :)

Matt Cutts December 10, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Thanks, Lisa and Jem. :)

spamhound, actually we’re just doing a fresh look in that area. More reports are always welcome.

Ryan, I enjoy reading newspapers. The trouble is that a Sunday Times can keep me busy for 3-4 days, and then I’m behind.

Saad Kamal December 11, 2008 at 12:15 am

it looks like your cat loves american football!

Saad Kamal December 11, 2008 at 12:16 am

I just noticed that your spam protection thingy (math plugin) is gone…

Is it on purpose?

Bonnie December 11, 2008 at 4:01 am

Have to be honest – tweeter feels like a child’s compulsion, a toy and a waste of time to me. Sorry, I’m probably old school.

Kunal Shah December 11, 2008 at 4:17 am

Congrats for your 1000th tweet!!

Deb December 11, 2008 at 5:10 am

Matt – cute cat and sweet Twitter … so you are very busy with Sunday Times

Can’t Matt just create some kind of filter? I love these sites and always come across cool stuff on MIXX and other sbs.

JadedTLC December 11, 2008 at 5:09 pm

@Jem Cat Lovers Unite

Matt Cutts should blog more about cats. :)

Nick Stamoulis December 12, 2008 at 7:35 am

My dog would sit in the newspaper if it was printed in peanut butter.

What is a Cat?

1. Cats do what they want.
2. They rarely listen to you.
3. They are totally unpredictable.
4. When you want to play, they want to be alone.
5. When you want to be alone, they want to play.
6. They expect you to cater to their every whim.
7. They are moody.
8. They leave hair everywhere.

CONCLUSION: They are tiny women in little fur coats.

Best

Twitter is the social networking of blogging.

I say if you want to blog, then blog. If all you want to do is twit, then go to myspace.

Why isn’t your cat reading RSS feeds instead of the paper.

Jason Nazar December 14, 2008 at 9:25 pm

congrats on the 1000th tweet, I think its a net gain if your one or two blog posts behind (join the club…)

Gav Hudson December 14, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Hey Matt,

Saw your cat had Kidney stones – often caused by them not drinking enough water. Try getting a kitty fountain (as they like to drink from running water), or simpler leaving water in a few different places around the house in little bowls, they like to hunt for the water and find it – so keep them guessing and it replicates their natural instincts. Keep the water fresh too! You’ll be surprised how much more they drink, and it keeps the little critters healthy.

Patrick December 15, 2008 at 9:33 am

My favorite part about this photo is that you can see the holes from Emma’s claws right underneath the photo. Reminds me of my cats, but unfortunately those holes often end up in my shirts!

Matt Cutts December 15, 2008 at 11:11 am

Gav, thanks for the suggestion. We actually had a kitty fountain, and I completely agree that cats drink a lot more water that way. Luckily, Emmy is doing well after she had surgery last Friday.

Daniel Howard December 15, 2008 at 8:53 pm

“Sometimes I think Twitter steals energy away from blogging.”

No offense, and I think you’re pretty cool, but that is about the saddest thing I have read on the Internet lately. After all, blogging is what people do that steals their energy away from proper writing!

Take care!

Sincerely,
-danny

sam December 16, 2008 at 3:15 am

Matt Cutts writes an entire blog post about how he is going to get back to tweeting soon. Wouldn’t it just have been easier to tweet?

Also – what is that analog reading device I see in that picture. What century is this anyway? ;)

Harith December 16, 2008 at 1:53 pm

Matt,

“Emmy is doing well after she had surgery last Friday.”

What was that surgery about?

Wish you a speedy recovery, Emmy girl!

I am not nearly as clear as everyone else seems to be on the utility of tweeting. tweeting is so fleeting.

dasvidaniya December 17, 2008 at 6:52 am

twitter is stealing a lot of things.. not just time from blogging.

Serge Dating December 17, 2008 at 7:57 am

Seems your CAT loves footbal. So cute! :)

Twitter is good, fast and steals some time also but still blogging really rocks.
