Happy ho-ho-holidays!

I’m flying out this morning to warm, sunny cold, snowy Omaha for the next few days. I would say something like “any Nebraska webmasters want to get together to talk SEO?” except I’m only gonna be there for a short time, and I’ve heard that if you actually do something silly like walk outside your house in Nebraska in the wintertime, you turn into a Matt-sicle in about 10 minutes flat. SEJ hasn’t announced any blog awards that I’m up for yet (Notice how they are drawing out the process? Announcing over multiple days like the Nobel Prize does? Smart, very smart.). So I’ll be sleeping on a plane to Omaha, with visions of “Most likely to flame a spammer” awards dancing in my head.

I hope everyone has good holidays!

  1. Matt,

We’re doing some campaign development, called In Business For Good, and wanted to know how to raise the visibility of the support centers, with image tags, from one of Googles strategic partners, cafepress.com, where our merchandising for good centers are located. Any tips?

http://www.cafepress.com/sliceofparadise/ has some of our campaign stores operating now.

  16. I’d be happy to take you out. I would have done so in Chicago, but you didn’t show up. Maybe in New York, if you decide to go there. I’ve still got to say thanks for some assistance you gave me in New York earlier this year.

  17. Have a fine and merry Omaholiday Matt, just don’t go …outside…
The in laws, eh? “…and about those Grandchildren….”

  18. Matt, as far as I’m concerned, I have it backwards and you got it right.

People like me work in high rises in Detroit, but vacation in Mexico, Florida, and California.

You work in Californai and vacation in Omaha. I’d take your version over mine any day. (any google openings? I promise I won’t try to live at the plex..often)

/Omaha is a good song by the counting crows.
// reminds me of the boards at slashdot or fark.
    /// slashes!

  19. Very merry Christmas Matt, and best wishes for the new year πŸ™‚

  20. Come to Austin, Texas. It’s going to be breezy and 70 degrees all weekend. πŸ™‚

Seriously. Come to Austin. I’ll buy the beer/Mexican Martinis, you provide the SEO guruness.

  21. Merry Christmas and a happy new year, and congrats – you’ve won the SEJ award!

  22. Yes Matt, you’ve won the Best SEO Blog Award by a mile. We’ll be announcing the results from you and Jeremy’s Spam Award next week and also addressing the rest of the categories. Congrats man!

  26. Matt G., I promised I’d try to leave webmaster stuff behind for a couple days. Just out of curiosity, what places do you recommend to chow at in Omaha?

  27. Loren, sweet! Thanks for letting me know–that put a goofy smile on my face all night tonight.

Now I gotta plot to escape my in-laws for a little bit to mention it on the main blog. πŸ™‚

But just like any tech-savvy person making the holiday rounds, I think I’m going to get tapped for computer tune-ups for the next day or so. πŸ™‚

Now that the surface appears to be cleared I am still dealing with all kinds of personal compliance issues. I’m turning off ping services on my non blog blogs, I just put in missing metatags that the so called experts said β€œdon’t matter” well, I am not even getting found in Yahoo, metatags don’t friggin matter???

I also tried out a service called pingoat.com that pings services, guess what? It instantly put me on a blacklist of so called friggin β€œsplogs” for using the tool then made me signup for their god damn forum to tell them to fix it (they didn’t, i’m now on a god damn splog list!

AND lunarpages is currently under a DoS attack.

This is the year I stop listening to you people and start doing it my own way. When I started listening I started losing…

Do I sound bitter? Damn right! πŸ˜‰

  29. Hi Matt

My wish for 2006, is that you install a google site search box on your blog πŸ™‚

Reason is that your blog is growing in contents very fast. And there are valuable info which we should be able to search and recall. The standard search box on your blog is very poor in returning any results, unfortunately.

Here is an example to illustrate what I mean.

I was looking for your reply to my comment regarding publishing syndicated articles. What I could remember was: harith matt articlecity
So I ran that query on the serach box of your blog. And the result was:

    Not Found
Sorry, but no posts matched your criteria.

Then I ran the same query on google, and it brought what I was looking for within seconds:

    Here is the result

You see what I mean, Matt πŸ™‚

  30. Merry ChristmaKwanzika Matt! πŸ˜‰

“and I’ve heard that if you actually do something silly like walk outside your house in Nebraska in the wintertime, you turn into a Matt-sicle in about 10 minutes flat.”

Welcome to the Midwest! You don’t like the weather, hang out awhile. I have honestly seen it go from Snow->60 Degrees->Snow in just over a week here in Kansas.

  31. Being from Lincoln Nebraska myself – I feel privildged to welcome you to the heartland. πŸ™‚ I’m not a big-time webmaster myself, but it would be an honor to meet you! πŸ˜€

  32. Hi Matt

Happy holidays from all of us here.

  33. Hi Matt!

Have a nice time in Ohama!
Harith – it’s a good idea to install some good search here πŸ™‚

  34. Happy Christmas from Ireland!

  35. Happy Christmas from an unusually sunny and warmish Scotland.

  36. Hi Matt

I got my gift, see in the media http://www.openoffice.org, πŸ™‚

Thanks for listening to all my comments and the stupidity of some of them! Nobody wants it.

Hope you have a great holiday and all the best for the New Year.

  37. Happy Holidays from Japan!

  38. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family and that goes for everybody else who visits here.

  39. Enjoy your vacations and Happy Holidays !!!

  40. Hmmm, where to start… If you like greek food, Ellada in Dundee (50th street, about a block south of Underwood) is a tiny place, seats about 8-10, but they are amazing. The kebabs are worth trying. If you want more american fare, less than a block to the northeast is Mark’s Bistro. The house specialty is macaroni and cheese (usually with added ingredients), been there about 3 times, and have yet to have a less than fantastic meal.

La Casa is a nice little italian place. Many people like their romano cheese pizza, though not everyone likes how dry it can be. La Casa is found at about 44th & Leavenworth. Over on 48th(?) & Center street is Gorat’s steak house. An old fashioned stakehouse, that Warren Buffet is said to frequent.

For chinese food, I pretty much found Three Happiness Express and stopped looking. Nice large portions, choice of eggroll or crab rangoon and choice of soup (wonton, eggdrop or sweet & sour), great service and really reasonably priced. Very casual. They are in a little strip mall at 51st & Leavenworth.

Leaving my extended neighborhood, you can head down to 13th & (and just north of) Martha street to place I just heard about called Two Cities. A bit pricier than most places in town, they pick two different cities worldwide every few weeks and the menu features selections of entrees, main courses and desserts from the cities. Like San Francisco and Tokyo, for example.

Out west, 119th & (1 block south of) Pacific there’s another Steakhouse with a gimmick. Brother Sebastians, is designed to feel like a monastry inside. Rooms like the winery, the library, etc. The atmosphere is nice and the food is quite good.

There’s a lot more out there… but that’s a decent start. Plus I need to sleep before I open presents.

I hope you have a merry Christmas, Matt, and come back any time!

    Matt G.

  41. Matt G, I really appreciate it! Ironically, I’m in the Omaha airport, and just about to board the outbound flight–but maybe next time I can try some of these. πŸ™‚

  42. I do not have opportunity to have a rest in holiday. I do business on the house. πŸ™
