Goopymart logo

August 27, 2006

in Weblog/blog

I’ve been playing around with my blog template a little bit. At the top right is a logo from goopymart. Let me know what you think: should I go with nothing but text, or does a little picture or two spruce the blog up?

And before you ask, I did pay for the logo. ;)

Ben Wilks August 27, 2006 at 8:00 pm

Looks great Matt, I already tried clicking it to go to your homepage (habit I guess). All for more graphics, perhaps you might like to do a little Google Images ranking test or two.

hahaha love it Matt. i’m definitely diggin the new picture logo. you should put the word spam somewhere on the button box ;)

Danielle August 27, 2006 at 8:11 pm

I think it looks good, but I do agree with what Johnathan said. Alter the pic to hve the word spam in white letters on the button. Kinda like the Staples easy button.

Michael August 27, 2006 at 8:15 pm

Love it, noticed it yesterday and thought it was a great touch. It even looks like you. I’m guessing the button is “up to interpretation” or am I just missing something. :) Great blog, thanks for putting time into making worthwhile reading.

Why do you have the same H1 tag on every page of your blog.

Would have thought, you’d H1 the actual page title, not the site title.

Nick - I think the original Nick here. August 27, 2006 at 8:41 pm

Logo for sure. Much better.

Ryan August 27, 2006 at 8:42 pm

I Like It…although I’d have put him in a more creative t-shirt like the ones you wear…

Dave Dugdale August 27, 2006 at 9:30 pm

Love the picture, i laughed when i saw the button.

ToddW August 27, 2006 at 9:34 pm

I like it spices things up! heh

Brent D. Payne August 27, 2006 at 9:59 pm

I say you stay focused on the killer information you provide. If it keeps you interested in doing the blog than by all means put up images but don’t let it take away from the great data you are giving the public.

That’s my .02

Sincerely,

Brent D. Payne
(usually I put a link here but read on your blog you don’t like them, so . . .) ha ha ha

Todd August 27, 2006 at 10:32 pm

Definitely need a sprite in your non-button hand. C’mon dude, don’t pass up good sponsorship opportunities:)

dg August 27, 2006 at 10:50 pm

I didn’t even see it until searching for a bit….then realized since I keep my browser window at around 750, I was missing yer whole sidebar. So I vote for all text and a fluid layout.

Tedster August 27, 2006 at 10:58 pm

But what happens with the logo if you decide to shave?

Rossco August 27, 2006 at 11:21 pm

Hey nice likeness Matt! I am very impressed. So are you going to start selling shirts soon? ;-)

Oh and I especially like the spammer nuke button… I wish I had one of those for my daily rummaging through SERPs.

SearcH EngineS WeB August 27, 2006 at 11:47 pm

. :D Search engines web feels that the site should be more Web 2.0 since this geek crowd has high bandwidth and powerful systems

A chat applet would be perfect there – or message board -

or a Video or Webcam – preferably overlooking various Google headquarters – if that is acceptable to them

Another idea would be a ‘Site of the Day ‘ area- highlighting a very interesting discovered site – or member site

Fabio August 27, 2006 at 11:54 pm

Cool. It is original. You are becoming a celebrity like Paris Hilton. I hope they do not release a secret video about your personal life one day …. hahaha

Kelly Jones August 28, 2006 at 12:20 am

Honestly? I thought it was a little lame. Then again, having watched you twice now do strange dinosaur impersonations on video… maybe it fits ;-)

ouch!

Elmer W. Cagape August 28, 2006 at 12:23 am

Nice one Matt.

What’s the button pushing act supposed to mean?

I think the site is great as it is right now. I don’t think adding forums or chat applet will make it better.

After all this is a personal blog.

Hawaii SEO August 28, 2006 at 12:31 am

I think it’s a great idea. Looks good.

Have you tried these guys? I think they produce great work.

Toby Sodor August 28, 2006 at 12:33 am

I think it’s OK, but I think it could do with a small improvement – make that little red button clickable! Maybe to a different site each day?

JP August 28, 2006 at 1:44 am

Matt, the logo rocks. Keep it!!!

garethjax August 28, 2006 at 2:13 am

Push the button!
Push the button!
:)

SEOidiot August 28, 2006 at 2:54 am

I think this proves beyond all doubt that you hate my cartoon of you at http://www.seoidiot.com/seoblog/

or is it because of the mousematt ?:D

Teodor Filimon August 28, 2006 at 3:43 am

Very cool :) I’d stick with the logo too.

Peter (IMC) August 28, 2006 at 4:16 am

I guess now you can never shave that beard off. :)

Philipp Lenssen August 28, 2006 at 4:47 am

Anything that makes your blog template stand out is cool, and the icon looks good (though it brings back cold war memories).

Harry August 28, 2006 at 4:52 am

NIce looking image..but wheres your cat?

Barry Schwartz August 28, 2006 at 5:00 am

I think you should ask DaveN for his Cartoon of you. The one where you are standing next to Paul Gardi. :)

Titanas August 28, 2006 at 5:19 am

Visual stimuli is always good. Keep up with the graphic.

Aaron Pratt August 28, 2006 at 5:29 am

That logo is perfect! :)

Ryan August 28, 2006 at 6:55 am

Pictures…always great. Breaks the text monotony. Go for it!

The Adam That Doesn't Belong To Matt August 28, 2006 at 7:10 am

I’m going to nitpick here a bit, but there is a reason.

It’s a nice little picture, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t see how it’s a logo. It just looks to me like…well, a picture. It’s not really something I can see being put on a coffee mug or a T-shirt or reproduced on the side of a building or whatever.

Granted, you’re probably not going to do any of those things. It’s probably just going to sit there in the top right being a picture. I just don’t see it as a logo, that’s all.

One thing I’d like to see is a little animation on that bad boy, if possible. Push the button and make your head a splode! That’d be cool!

Harith August 28, 2006 at 7:42 am

Hi Matt,

Nice logo..BUT…….

Why EmmyGirl and OzzieGuy aren’t there? after all those two charming cats have become part of Matt’s blog theme and they are very popular among many of us.

Eric Enge August 28, 2006 at 7:50 am

So why did you think you needed to tell us that you paid for the logo? Is there some strange part of your reputation that proceeds you that I don’t know about? Might be time to come clean Matt. I have heard that Google gives people second chances …

roger August 28, 2006 at 7:58 am

You should change your favicon to a red button.

Barry August 28, 2006 at 8:31 am

When I first saw it I thought, ‘nice friendly touch there,’ but I’m leaning slightly to the ‘all text’ design. Nonetheless, the resemblance is eerily similar…..

Andi August 28, 2006 at 8:45 am

It’s the second best logo in search, good job! After it becomes more familiar as a picture the elements may be further abstracted and “logo-fied.” Congratulations on becoming a brand. :)

Maurice August 28, 2006 at 8:52 am

Big red button’s

I think Matt is hinting that he would like one of thease for Xmass

http://www.engadget.com/2005/01/18/the-big-red-button-of-doom/

or one of thease

Mortgage Expert August 28, 2006 at 11:08 am

Looks really good. You can now stick the logo on any Google perks…t shirts, hats, and so.

JLH August 28, 2006 at 12:35 pm

I like it. Your excellent reputation and good name are your branding and all you’ll ever need, but this ads a bit of personality to an otherwise stock wordpress theme.

Joseph Hunkins August 28, 2006 at 12:56 pm

Matt, it’s you.

I liked the chat applet idea. Scoble recently did an impromptu little meeting with chatcreator and it was really fun. http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/08/16/cool-chat-and-wiki-tools/

Rosenstand August 28, 2006 at 1:29 pm

Matt… Am I right when I think that the red button is the famous “Banned by Google” button? :-)

Kirby August 28, 2006 at 2:36 pm

I alsways pictured you turning knobs instead of pushing buttons. Button pushing is more of a DaveN gig, unless of course we should read something into this in light of your SEO keyword stuffed post.

BillyS August 28, 2006 at 4:24 pm

Matt -

It’s your blog, you do what you want. Personally, I noticed it right away and thought it was pretty cool.

I worked up a version quickly with the word SPAM on the box (not button), I think it adds to the image, but either way it’s great.

Matt Cutts August 28, 2006 at 5:30 pm

SEOidiot, that beard on your icon does kind of weird me out. Just a little. :)

Tedster, clearly I can never shave. :)

adam August 28, 2006 at 10:24 pm

funny logo, really!

Emad Honarparvar August 29, 2006 at 1:35 am

yep, it’s frank and friendly… but kinda too funny to put it here maybe, I prefer typography things

SEOidiot August 29, 2006 at 1:40 am

Matt I will try and tone it down for the forthcoming comic strips then… :D

Ian August 29, 2006 at 3:18 am

Great picture lol :D

Ian Mansfield August 29, 2006 at 5:57 am

Logo looks good – chop head off and turn into favico as well :)

Debby August 29, 2006 at 2:53 pm

I thought maybe it was a self portrait.

David Besnette August 29, 2006 at 8:02 pm

Pictures = good! What happens when the button is pushed?

Alex August 30, 2006 at 2:04 pm

The picture is great ! Perhaps a nice Google logo in the background would make the picture more like you :)

Dotty September 3, 2006 at 9:20 am

Hi Matt! Do I have to wait 108min for your next button push? :D
