A little correction: it’s not the accelerometer that senses the movement of the iPhone to your ear but a proximity sensor. Apple uses it to turn off the screen as soon as you hold the iPhone to your ear during a call.

I saw this being demonstrated yesterday on UK TV.

It reminds me of a similar demonstration years ago using flight recognition at Airlines. The guy demonstrating it sneezed during the demonstration and managed to book a flight to New York!!

Could Google make this app available for PC as well? Instead of using the accelerometer to trigger the search, users can say something like “Google for…” or “Google images for…” or “Google wikipedia for…” and so on, and then wait for the beep before saying the query.

iPhone users can also say those commands when the accelerometer couldn’t sense the movement right away.

Sean, I upgraded my Google App this morning, it did upgrade just fine and I got voice recognition feature

Matt, firstly, Hi! I’ve been a quite reader for a long time (two years!). I think the voice recognition is a great touch to an excellent application. I think the new interface is really slick Much more stylish and easy-to-use.

Matt, I’m glad this app works well for you but I have to say, while I find Tell Me to work extremely well, the technology doesn’t seem to be up to snuff here. In my clear, unaccented english…

I say “boggle”… it hears “ogle”

I say “what time is it?”… it hears “times it”

I say “flashlight”… it hears “fleshlight”

I say “worthy”… it hears “warranty”

(No, I’m not looking for a worthwhile flashlight, I run http://www.flashlightworthy.com )

Ok, granted, boggle isn’t that common a word but really, “fleshlight”? It finds an obscure sex toy to be a more like word than a common household item? (and just as surprising is the number of times the word “fleshlight” appears online!)

Here’s hoping the technology improves rapidly and dramatically.
