Hello, Threw me off and I thought the install was messed up. After 2 restores and reinstalls I figured out it was the firewall. Would have been nice to have had a warning. I’m not the brightest bulb on the planet, but lots of people are going to get thrown off by the pop-up error messages and go through a lot of needless BS. Maybe Google could alert people before the install Desktop Search 4.0

I still don't know why some sites were banned and some are not. There are lots of spammers. Spammers are those who post without sense. Google prioritize the exchange links but there are several people posting automatically into blogs.

Matt I posted an issue on desktop 4.0 on an older post of yours about desktop search - ironically written in October 2005. I was looking for this thread. Short recap is that Desktop 4.0 needs an exception in the windows firewall for the gadgets to load. Otherwise you get seven "gadget failed to install" pop-up messages as soon as you start it after install.

Sometimes the search was inaccurate because of the algorithm of Google...I don't know if it is the link building as priority or the traffic, pagerank , alexa rank.tsk.tsk.tsk.

Google Trends reminds me of http://www.bus4all.com/?m=4 a stock exchange on headline news where people can see trends in media and buy buzzwords.

"But I do hate scuzzy behavior, especially in our search results."

The trouble with you guys at Google (it becomes increasingly clear) is that you TALK a good conduct criteria, you simply DON'T IMPLEMENT IT.

For months now, I have been reporting the misconduct of a particular site. I've used every reporting method Google offers short of the CEOs persoinbal e-mail address. (That's my next report).

But Google has done nothing. The site STILL tops page rankings on specific searches, STILL offers up stupednous traffic figures from Google, and Still downloads known spyware and trojans to unsuspecting visitors.

So do give it a rest Matt. If you REALLY hate such sites, DO SOMETHING about them.

An amazing Googlepress post. Very cool.

Just had a look at the bookmarks and Co-op. Got to get my head around the difference between the two.
- Bookmarks - so easy to click on the link, and then able to edit labels.
- Co-op - can I be bothered to write xml files. If there is not already, there will be soon - a way to convert the bookmarks functionality to Co-op xml style, or another product for bookmarking that in turn creates the xml files. If I visit a cool site, I should be able to bookmark it with the regex styling on the fly, then submit it to Google with another click. And how about editing my own labels once submitted. Once I am happy with my bookmarks, I should be able to submit them to the coop.

So what does it mean for SEO. Do we now have yet another means of being able to manipulate results, or be one up on competitors that are not aware of all the things available. I searched for "Auckland" on Google.com and saw the dining guides label, and a competitors site was labeled, and mine was not, and my site way down the rankings - am top for the generic city/restaurant phrase. Clearly something else that seo's need to get their heads around.

Then google.co.nz does not return the labels when searching for "Auckland".
Then my results start getting skewed for my search history
Then there are different datacenters that come up.
Which SERP's are we SEO'ing for??? It is becoming increasingly tough to do it all properly.

So many different products in Google now, but not every page has links to every other page. Frustrating.

Too many cool things with very little integration.
