Good links

It’s late, but I wanted to point out this interview with Anurag Acharya. Anurag is one those unsung heroes that made a huge difference in the early days of Google. After that, he took a break to do something that he loved, and that was Google Scholar.

Also mad props to Avichal Garg, a product manager at Google who was recently named one of America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs. I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Avichal on several projects, and he’s a top-notch guy. Whether they’re veterans or newer Googlers, I’m grateful for the caliber of people I get to work with every day.

Sometimes it’s nice to take a step back to see the big picture, too. First, Steve Bryant does a review of 2006 for Google. That’s some serious content. And it reminded me of Jaimie Sirovich’s post giving 21 tips from the first year of this blog. Good stuff, Jaimie; thanks for saving me the trouble of summarizing. πŸ™‚

Here are the TOP Digg Submissions- sorted by Diggs

Interesting to compare with the 21 Tips Piece

  2. But it seems Jaimie Sirovich forgot to include the evergreen of Matt Cutts tips; Filing a reinclusion request πŸ˜‰

  3. So your not the only great person at Google? There’s more to love? πŸ˜‰

Seriously though, I was reading about Avichal in BusinessWeek when that came out. I really admire the guy. That list kind of got me out of an “Idea Rut”.

  4. Nice to see that some of great minds at work at Google are from India

    πŸ™‚

  5. It’s nice to get your serious information from someone so down to earth.

One minute he’s telling you exactly want you need/want to hear (although a lot of the time you don’t know it!)

The next he’s giving someone “mad props”

    Keep it up!

  6. S.E.W., thanks for mentioning that. Looks like I got dugg a couple times I didn’t even know about. πŸ™‚

  7. Awwww Google sounds like a nice warm fuzzy place to work!

I want to read a blog about the lesser people at Google (if there is any such person??) and the arguments, maybe written in a TV soap style! πŸ˜€

  8. I think all Google people are great. It’s Google’s staff that’s keeping my afloat!

  9. I would sincerely like for you to be posting a link to an interview with me in the future (as a Google employee of course)

  10. Matt, rather than leave it others to decide which of your tips are the most useful, why not have a rating system which allows your readers to give feedback β€” then people could see for themselves what the top rated posts are, much like WordPress templates (or whatever).

  11. matt off topic but do you know how google treats websites that syndicate news articles?

I have 3 websites willing to give me their full news articles for my site on a regular basis that they have on their site

Will i be penalized, black listed, looked upon badly, if i put that news on my site? Thing i dont have writers so having a website which is total news offer me their news is great but i want to stay in good terms with google

    any ideas?

    thanks

  12. SEO has come a long way thanks to the great Heroes at Google πŸ™‚ You guys have brought the world out of the dark ages into the information age. It is a way people can express their ideas and share information rapidly with the entire world.

Regarding the previous comment. You should only post original news and copy material on your pages. News articles which are deemed copies may get you penalized. One thing you can do is to place code on the page and on the robots.txt file which tell the search engines such as Google not to follow links to those dupe pages, nor to index them, nor for the robots to crawl them. That may keep you out of getting penalized. Hope this helps. If you need original copywriting material you can contact a company that writes like ours. It is not as expensive as you may think. Not all SEO companies have professional copywriters so you should chose wisely and make sure they are trusted so that they do not sell you duplicate content.
