Firefox 2 out

by on October 24, 2006

in Gadgets/Hack

There’s this really cute puppy that one of my colleagues brings to work sometimes:

Firefox puppy!

Her name is officially Olwen, and someday she’ll grow into her big, big ears:

Firefox puppy!

I refuse to call her Olwen. Can you guess what I call her? That’s right, I call her Firefox. :) Can you see the similarity?

Firefox puppy!

Here, compare with this picture of the original Firefox:

Firefox

By the way, Firefox 2 is out. It pretty much rocks the house. What, you want more info and fewer puppy pictures? Start reading here. Then download here.

nofollow links shouldn’t be highlighted red by default. what does the average user know about the nofollow attribute. he probably thinks this link is leading to a phishing site.

Matt, what race is that?
She’s REALLY cute! :)

my bad. seo 4 firefox was automatically updated an highlighting nofollow links was one of its new features.

Matt,

Question on Firefox. Any particular reason http://google.com/firefox does not show the links in the same order as the default google home page i.e. no videos link.

Is this an oversight on part of Google’s part?

http://Google.com/Firefox is the default home page for firefox 1.5.

Arrrghhhh !

Damn copy/paste bug in FF.

My girlfriend came in while I was reading this and is now insisting I get her a FireFox puppy……. She also wants a baby penguin and a monkey too ;)

Only downside to 2.0 for me is the Add N Edit cookies extension isn’t compatible. Last night I loaded up FF and it said update these extensions, that’s pretty cool as I didn’t have to check and didn’t have to restart.

Hopefully they’ve fixed the aweful bug that decides to eat your bookmarks at seemingly random intervals.

Reply

Chris October 25, 2006 at 6:05 am

I’m aware this isn’t your department, but after installing FireFox 2.0 it crashed like crazy for me. After reading through the docs, I disabled all my extensions and start enabling them one by one to figure out what the problem was.

Turns out the Google Toolbar was the problem. I’m assuming it isn’t happening to everyone and I have no idea why it’s happening.

Guess I really don’t need it since FF 2.0 has it’s own Spell Checker.

Reply

Thomas October 25, 2006 at 6:19 am

If my wife saw that dog for sale, we’d have a dog. Heck, I’d buy him too. Soooo cute. Oh and Firefox 2 rocks!

> Guess I really don’t need it since FF 2.0 has it’s own Spell Checker.

I used the FF2 native spellchecker for a day but then I realized it chokes on German*, so now I’m back to the Google Toolbar’s spellchecker. The extra-click ain’t bad as sometimes instant spellchecking is annoying anyway… like when you’re writing HTML in a textarea.

*Anyone knows if they have dictionary downloads for every language?

Reply

Why do Americans love small dogs? Especially not a clean breed? Did people forget about real dogs like German Shepherds and Boxers, (my 2 favorites).

Anyway …

Almost ready to try Firefox but being a “caucious fella” I’ll wait a week to hear about bugs (if any).

By the way Matt !!! Where can I get this SPAM plug in you have to make people do Math before they can comment? I get over 200+ spam comments a day that I need to reject. Help me out please.

Reply

Multi-Worded Adam October 25, 2006 at 8:25 am

Igor’s right. Small dogs are okay, but big dogs tend to be smarter, easier to train, and more fun. At least this is what I’ve found from my experience with both.

The only problem with big dogs is they’re a lot more expensive from a maintenance standpoint and they tend not to live as long.

I tend to wait about a month though as far as bug reports/fixes go, so I won’t download either until the middle of November.

I agree about small dogs. Most of the time if I see a dog smaller than my cat, I proclaim, “That there just ain’t a dog at all.” Which is quite often, unfortunately, thanks in part to the Paris-Hilton disciples and their toy pooches.

Frankly I find that large dogs are helpful, useful, and loads of fun. Great for hunting. But women seem to hate ‘em, and don’t like hunting much, either.

I guess things are just changing around here. In the meanby, ’tis nice to be in Texas …

Nice dog, first of all what kind is it? It reminds me of a desert fox that my son works with at his job.

I have a new blog http://www.redliontrader.com that is targeted to fellow traders. I would like to build a website for traders to download their trades for analysis. I think I need an AJAX interface, although I really don’t know too much of what I am talking about. If there is anyone that I can just bs with about with email me at rl@redliontrader.com. Not sure if this meets your guidelines but WTH.

I think breed of the dogs are one thing, and all dogs deserve a great home irregardless whether it’s pure breed or not.

Have an awesome week!

I prefer cats, but that is definitely a cute puppy. However, I bet that puppy won’t be nearly as cute in about 1.5 years.

Also, the idea of nofollow links being highlighted is rediculous. I hope this is not implemented in Firefox 2, or is at least configurable and turned off by default.

Rumour I have is Matt is infact taking part in American Idol and being rivaled as a replacement for Simon Cowell.

Personally, I’d love to see Simon Cowell given a webspam handling position within big G with the right to publicly and manually ban anyone for any reason he sees fit. That’d be some entertaining stuff.

Query results for the domain spammyloser.com:

spammyloser has been banned by Simon Cowell for the following reason:

“Quite frankly, sir, I think your usage of the noframes tag to stuff keywords is completely pathetic, and I’d like to thank you for wasting 30 seconds of the Company’s valuable time. I sincerely hope that one day you end up looking up at the tires of a moving bus.”

If you would still like to visit spammyloser.com, feel free to type the domain name into the address bar of your web browser.
