Don’t piss off Ms. Dewey

December 10, 2006

in Weblog/blog

One more fun post tonight.

At this point, many people on the web have seen Ms. Dewey, the viral marketing site that encourages people to search using live.com. The nice Ms. Dewey looks like this:

Ms. Dewey in a good mood

But what happens if you refuse to search with live.com? Well, Ms. Dewey gets MMMMMAAAAAADDDDD!!!

Ms. Dewey about to kill you!

It turns out that Janina Gavankar, the actress who played Ms. Dewey, had a role in Cup of My Blood. Valleywag calls the film soft-porn (<—— Not safe for work), but other sources place it in the religious-horror genre. In the spirit of investigation, does anyone want to add it to their Netflix queue?

Okay, now I’m off to read comic books graphic novels and head to bed. No more blogging for a while! Goodnight..

People should ask Ms. Dewey about Ms. Javankar. Keep pressing her for more information. The results are very, very funny. It’s a great marketing concept.

Michael Martinez December 10, 2006 at 11:29 pm

Oops. Sorry. I should have written “Ms. Dewey about Ms. Gavankar…”.

Okay, now I’m off to read comic books graphic novels and head to bed

OMG :-o There must be a HORRIBLE misunderstanding!!

THAT Ms. Dewey works at SearcH EngineS WeB, ………….She bolted out the office …………mumbling something about a ‘Deleted Comment’?!

Harith December 11, 2006 at 12:12 am

Matt

The last time you were so much productive was when Mrs. Cutts, your mother and your mother-in-law traveled together to China.

At that time you posted the best Grabbag on this planet ( 192 Comments!!!!). Should we expect the same within this week if you get time? ;)

pat December 11, 2006 at 12:34 am

Ms Dewey don’t do dial up so I can’t currently er… investigate this fully.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow

Thanks for all the posts

I like the response if you ask about world of warcraft

Any Day Ms. Gavankar

Harith December 11, 2006 at 2:00 am

SEW

I wouldn’t call your posts “User Friendly” ones ;)

Though I find some of your posts interesting indeed, its difficult for me to read them, because of all those; italian, bold, capital and small fonts, all mixed together :(

Thanks!

Ian December 11, 2006 at 3:32 am

Harith – Italian? :D

Sumana December 11, 2006 at 5:44 am

The new “Y: The Last Man” trade collection is out — is that what you read at bedtime? Or maybe one of the Elsewords?

Harith December 11, 2006 at 6:11 am

Ian

Did I write that?

Blame it on SEW :)

Ryan December 11, 2006 at 6:53 am

Man, I can’t see anybody using this more than once. The loading time, plus the intro, plus the HUGE lag time while she says something irrelevant before my search results load…

this is supposed to HELP live.com?? How?

Jason December 11, 2006 at 6:59 am

I like this Matt, any excuse to look at other women while your wife is not at home huh?

You dog you. :-)

I hope you wife doesn’t read your blog (often) for your own sake.

Interesting tool though. A bit useless. I prefer Google for my searching needs to be quite honest.

Thanks,

Jason

Ha! MsDewey will keep my attention for hours. It’s great if you have a bunch of bandwidth. :)

I may have missed something, but I find the whole Ms. Dewey thing annoying. Does anyone else?

Joe Hunkins December 11, 2006 at 8:40 am

Excuse me Matt but down there in Mountain View isn’t Ms Dewey just like every girl next door? Part virtual, part horror movie, and cross if you make the wrong query?

Michael Martine December 11, 2006 at 9:54 am

Searching for naughty terms elicits an amusing response from her.

spamhound December 11, 2006 at 10:20 am

Matt,

You really need to look into why http://www.respond.com is taking up in some cases 4 or 5 spots on a single page of results. These guys have got every industry pegged with numerous results from different subdomains on the same page of results.

Here is an example:
driveway paving texas

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-41,GGLJ:en&q=driveway+paving+texas

Ms Dewey is nice to look at but, at least MSN LIve search is not sucking up the spam bait. They only show one result from that site for the same search.

Is this what has become of Google?

commentator December 11, 2006 at 11:01 am

if you want a real laugh, search for Janina Gavankar nude – really funny

Rose Water December 11, 2006 at 11:06 am

If you ask her if she’s a lesbian, she’ll say that “as a child, her parents gave her gender neutral dolls to play with”!

Matt Cutts December 11, 2006 at 11:15 am

Vol.2 of Penny Arcade. :) I don’t play the video games, but I know enough to get the jokes.

Thanks but I’ll pass on that one. :)

Jeff December 11, 2006 at 12:11 pm

Google should hire an actual hot chick that can act and then put a new spin on the term “I Feel Lucky”.

Eli December 11, 2006 at 12:16 pm

try typing in “ho”

Harith December 11, 2006 at 1:46 pm

Jeff

“Google should hire an actual hot chick that can act…”

No chick please. They no nothing about Google Datacenters, algo updates or how to file reinclusion requests, for example.

Instead I suggest Adam Lasnik and his guitar :)

Multi-Worded Adam December 11, 2006 at 2:59 pm

Harith, buddy, you missed the boat completely there.

Suppose you focus on the phrases “hot chick” and “I Feel Lucky”. Then look down between your legs. If you still wanna hear Lasnik play A-chord after that, there’s something wrong with all of us. ;)

Jeff December 11, 2006 at 3:25 pm

Apologies to Google…the phrase is actually “I’m Feeling Lucky”. I like that even better. Now if they would just implement this feature “properly” I would be feeling much more optimistic.

Rose Water December 11, 2006 at 7:22 pm

Matt, you are the king of geeks!

Vic December 11, 2006 at 7:42 pm

Think they put any hidden Easter Eggs in place?

Sriram Venkitachalam December 11, 2006 at 9:22 pm

Eli, “ho” does give a funny response. lol.

martinibuster December 11, 2006 at 10:19 pm

According to IMDB, the name of the actor who plays the lead in the movie is Danny Sullivan.

:o

Matt Cutts December 11, 2006 at 10:29 pm

Danny, you dog! As if a career as Mondo Search Guru weren’t enough!

Harith December 11, 2006 at 11:55 pm

Multi-Worded Adam

Did you know that at Googleplex they call Adam Lasnik as “Mr. Universal” :)

martinibuster

Btw, after the latest PubCon, Danny is refered to as; Danny “Innocent” Sullivan :)

And “I feel lucky” this morning. Starting the day by filing a DMCA with Google ;)

Anand December 12, 2006 at 12:18 am

lol. Matt you always pounce on Microsoft every chance you have. What about google being pwned today. No comments on this?? http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/008122.html

Harith December 12, 2006 at 12:59 am

Anand

Here is Matt’s reply in case you haven’t noticed :)

Greg Stoltz December 12, 2006 at 5:04 pm

I have to say that since my site, mycoupons.com, actually shows up in a place I can find on live.com and NOT on google.com. I’m kinda liking this chick. :)

Oh, multi-worded Adam, what are you trying to say about my playing? Er, about me? :o

I apparently play a pretty mean E major flat 9 sharp 13 chord ;)

Oh, wait. Just saw the “hot chick” part. Nevermind.

Multi-Worded Adam December 14, 2006 at 12:09 pm

LMAO!

I’ve never heard you play, but unless you’re Slash, SRV, one of the Young brothers (AC/DC before someone asks), or Knopfler (Dire Straits), you’re just not gonna compete with most hot chicks. ;)

JohnMu December 17, 2006 at 2:12 pm

M-W Adam: http://www.lasnik.net/music/

Not bad, Adam, but time for an update :-) .

Adam Lasnik December 17, 2006 at 3:32 pm

Heh, thanks, JohnMu, and yes… I definitely do need to post some updates there! :)

Is Die Hard a bad movie because of Hudson Hawk?
