ABC broadcasting from Googleplex

in Google/SEO

I think ABC is doing its World News Tonight newscast from the Googleplex right now: http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/ . I’m trying to get some work done, but I think my office is in the background if you’re interested. In case anyone walks by with a camera, I’ll leave out my Inigo Montoya sword and my “Watch out for falling spam” sign by the glass wall of my office.

Update: I’d like to send a shout out to K., A., and T., three colleagues who were in the final shot of the broadcast (in the “tent”). W00t! If you want to see more of the Googleplex, an ABC video has seven minutes of footage that give you a pretty good feel for the Plex. What that video doesn’t reveal is the location of the minikitchen that has Green Apple Mentos. Mmm..

Yep you are right. I didnt see you on there. You need a big Ale8 poster on those glass windows…

Wayne January 20, 2006 at 4:22 pm

You might want to place that Enter At Your Own Risk sign on your window if you want to get any work done :)

Don’t forget to wear your SPAM shirt – Have fun with the kaos at the Plex :)

For those who missed Matt’s blog post about his “Inigo Montoya Spammer Sword”, it’s pretty entertaining and can be seen at http://mattcutts.com/blog/my-name-is-inigo/

It would be really, really funny if you walked across the background of the telecast waving your sword back-n-forth.

I think he needs a bigger sword, it doesnt seem to be big enough for all the spam I have seen. Lets hope 2006 will see all engineers at Google walking softly and carrying a really BIG SPAM SWORD of Death.

Now I know why the progress on Big Daddy has been so slow. Everyone is walking around, playing with chaos towers and eating.

On the serious side, I could never understand why more companies don’t provide free food for their employees. Looks like a fun place to work.

Very cool being able to show the commons area where the Google Dance is held each year to my wife and co-workers. I’m looking forward to August already. :-)

SEW are you in the video??

Harith January 20, 2006 at 11:48 pm

Good morning all

I can’t see the video you talk about. No Inigo.. no falling spam.. no Bacon Polenta.. no Matt .. and no cat. Maybe its for USA local consumption only :-)

Wish you all a great weekend.

Harith January 21, 2006 at 12:10 am

Oh..btw…

Talking about falling spam.. I don’t know whether this case is a spam or just a normal “redirect” case. Not so sure, therefore I’m asking!

Take a look at this query and see that site which is listed at top 4 position (ww*.linkreferral.com/). I don’t know why it needs that strange redirect.

Does that mean making such redirect shall bring a site at top positions on Google serps :-)

I wish google employed me…

That is funny, they even try to hide the text on the cloaked page. :)

Hey Matt I think you need to sharpen that sword of yours.

On a previous comment I made when you were talking about tackling foreign spam I posted a search query I’d made on google uk. Im afraid to report that it hasn’t changed much. The SERPS are still being over run by the same technique as before. 5 of the top 10 redirect to same porn site as before.

You may also want to watch the BBC “Money” documentary that shows how Google helped save a childs eyesight.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4598090.stm

Matt, did you notice these pop up ads such as the one that occurs when you click on the http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/ are happening more frequently via Google search results? Is this practice against Google’s spam guidelines?

I think it’s right to turn down the GOP for general requests. It’s not a homeland security issue and the government can find other remedies for the dark side of the Web.

Matt Said January 21, 2006 at 12:15 pm

I dare you to be searching on Yahoo! when the cameras are rolling. :-p

This blog has a PR of 7!!! and there is nothing of value on it.

And I have a site with thousands of pages of valuable information, and I cant get google to index it. Amazing.

Proof that google is not the search engine of the people, but rather friends and big business.

John January 21, 2006 at 10:14 pm

I cant see it :(

Dissent January 22, 2006 at 10:49 am

Mmmm… maybe this is just a conspiracy on the governments part to increase revenue by using Googles search data to create a bunch of adsense spam portals!

Somebody doesn’t understand how pagerank works then..

Ryan January 23, 2006 at 6:49 am

wow Matt.. you’re trading at $485 on the alexadex website :)

My top site only gets $35/share :’(

Too bad those weren’t real stock options eh?

This was added to Digg – right after this topic was created – here is the final result with and the 150 comments.

Digg members rarely agree on most things – but many Geeks said they really wanted to work at Google after seeing that video
