Aha: Matt figures something out.

After SES San Jose, I caught a cold from someone. Just as I was starting to feel nearly 100%, I got sick again! “What the heck is going on?” I asked myself. I should mention I’m normally as healthy as a horse. I tend to get sick maybe once a year, and it’s usually a cold that passes quickly. So after I still felt bad (coughing and running a fever) after another week or so, I started wondering, “Have I turned into some sort of wussball? I never stay sick this long!”

I’m better than most guys about things like asking for directions when I’m lost. But I tend to soldier on when I’m sick instead of going to the doctor. My wife has had the same thing, and she’s much smarter than me. She eventually went to the doctor. So what did she find out?

The doctor said she had bronchitis! Aha, BRONCHITIS! We have BRON-FRIGGIN-CHITIS! That means I don’t have to feel like a wussball for coughing this long. :) The funny thing is that I’ve talked to several people at Google who said “yeah, I got a nasty cold that knocked me flat for a few days, and I coughed for a week or two after that.” I think it was making the rounds at Google.

So I’m just going to take it easy this weekend. Lots of relaxing, fluids, sunshine, and fresh air. Wintersmith, by Terry Pratchett doesn’t come out for another month, but there’s a couple book sales around the bay area this weekend, plus the Mountain View Art & Wine Festival.

It sounds like your family doctor is a “supplementals” one :)

Here where i live doctors will hand you a prescription saying: ANTIBIOTICS! Otherwise that BRON-FRIGGIN-CHITIS of yours might affect your lungs if it stayed untreated :(

Not sure I would compare myself to being as ‘healthy as a horse’ because ill horses end up in bottles of glue, candles and soap.

Sounds like me. Strep throat two times in August and I had not had it in 10+ years and get sick maybe once every 5 years! Crazy things going on I guess ;)

If your wife did not see the doctor, she and you will not have BRONCHITIS at all. The body will solve the problem for you and you will be ok within weeks.

Yep, it’s going around. Just make sure it doesn’t turn into laryngitis because that is REALLY frustrating, esp if you want to pod-cast.

When people suspect they have a cold they could do others a favor by buying some disinfectant and spraying their immediate vacinity. Also, using disinfectant wipes to clean areas they touch.

Ironically this would Kill off those germs before they can procreate and be hosted somewhere else - a HUMAN for example!

But, the real irony is that a few dollars worth of COMMON products - can prevent hundreds of hours in lost productivity, and a loss of quality of life.

    Go Figur’ :?

I, too, came back from SES with bronchitis. And was unfortunate enough to have a cross-country plane ride on which I could not take cough syrup :-(
My cough lasted for 3 weeks and a round of antibiotics. Bronchitis can be caused by bacteria or a virus, so I recommend a trip to the doc.

    Feel better!

Hi, if you haven’t seen a doctor yet i think you should see one too. But if you’re looking for some alternative (more natural :) ) stuff that can help i can tell you what my mum did for me:
1)raw egg yolk + honey and a few drops of lemon (all mixed into a fine paste of course :) ).
    2)Boiled red wine with cinnamon
It worked for me :) Hope you get better soon!

In Italy we have the three “L” law:
    Latte, Letto, Lana
    that in english is:
    Milk, Bed, Wool

The best remedy? Milk, a drop of whisky and a drop of honey. It’s tested!
    bye

Last time Matt had a cold, Canadian Adam suggested him to drink boiled water. And now you suggest Matt to drink boiled red wine!

Just wondering what would be the nex boiled thing that Matt have to drink :)

Matt, what you need to do is make it a daily thing to walk through a highly infectious Hospital ward to toughen up your immune system. I bet you have never got a virus from Google plex. I rest my case :)

Hmm, I got a killer cold on the airplane flying out from Portland, OR to Boston, MA. My aunt made a suggestion that I plan to heed. She says she takes “Airborne” whenever she flies or is going to be around a crowd. I will let you people educate yourselfs on what Airborne is. They got this new thing called a “search engine” for the internet that you can use. . . . .
